Newly Thai’s Prime Minister Shinawatra Yingluck has become the newest member of the club of current female presidents and prime ministers in the world.
On Thursday 5 August, Shinawatra Yingluck was voted as the newly Thai’s Prime Minister as well as the first woman to hold the office in Thai history with 296 votes in the nearly 500-member parliament. And today is the official day of the 44-year-old Shinawatra as the country’s leader when King Bhumibol Adulyadej endorsed her appointment as the 28th prime minister with a royal command presented at a ceremony at her Pheu Thai party headquarters. Making a speech after certificated officially on Monday, Shinawatra announced: "To be the first female prime minister like this is a big challenge and carries high expectations of the people." but expressed her confidence that "being a woman will not be an obstacle because women combine strength and tenderness in solving problems."
