Jamie Wardley: Tremendous Sand Drawings

Accustomed to create small sand sculptures or buildings, the British sand sculptor Jamie Wardley has recently chosen a different expression: painting the giant sand drawings which can only view fully from the above. In the other words, Jamie Wardley turns beaches into oil paintings by his talented and tries his best to send important messages through his giant sand drawings.

Jamie first came into the world of sand sculpting when being a young boy on a trip in Norway. At that time, he met a sand sculptor who succeeded in transforming two sand blocks into The Queen and Mr. Bean during just some hours. Jamie has such impressive talent that he started asking all questions in his mind about his art. He tentatively went towards the sand and took a tool in each hand, and began working on his very first sculpture. The Sand Sculptor checked up on him from time to time and gave a few tips here and there. After that he said: “I’m very impressed with what you’ve done. I think that you could become a very good sand sculptor one day. If you are ever in Norway again and would like to practice in my studio in Oslo, then just give me a call.” As a result, the young British started making ice sculptures and impressive sand drawings, and now he’s one of the world’s most famous beach artists in the world.

On beaches all over the north of England and Scotland, 32-year-old Jamie Wardley devotes himself to draw eye-catching artworks

For this sand sculptor, "Time is a big challenge when you’re working on a beach." explains the 32-year-old from Bradford. "You have about six hours from when the tide has gone out before it comes back in again.” Moreover, losing his work because the tide is impossible to avoid of a sand artist. "I don’t mind it when they disappear, that’s all part of it." says Jamie.

An old saying goes “A picture is worth a thousand words”. However, have you ever thought of grouping words and pictures together? Amateur Spanish artist Juan Osborne has created the masterpieces dubbed by words. The Spanish architect and designer composes a number of stunning arts thanks to his own software. Juan Osborne scours famous quotes, song lyrics and transcription. Hence, the words in various lengths, heights and colors are used to form the pictures. The 40-year-old found his unique talent when he was working for an architectural firm in 2009. Since then, he has created more than 500 word art images. Juan states, “Words are powerful, they go straight into the human mind and really add something to my pictures that you can't get from a regular picture taken with a camera.”

This image of Prince William and Kate Middleton is made from as many as 200,000 words in various colors, heights and lengths.

Van Gogh and Beethoven: Craziest Geniuses

Vincent van Gogh, Ludwig van Beethoven and Sir Isaac Newton are the names that come to mind when people think about the world’s greatest painter, composer and inventor respectively. However, the geniuses all suffered from seriously mental disorders, which led them to living the rest of their life in illness and troubles.

Vincent van Gogh (1853 - 1890)

Vincent van Gogh, whose paintings were highly appreciated thanks to their unique brushwork and expression, is regarded as one of the greatest painters in history. However, few people know that the Dutch painter only gained popularity after his death.

Besides his fame and talent, Van Gogh made the world remember him because he dared to cut off his own ear due to broken friendship with artist Paul Gauguin and suffered from bipolar disorder at the end of his life.

Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 - 1827)

Ludwig van Beethoven, whose passionate intensity and brilliant design brought instrumental music to a new level, is considered as one of the world’s greatest composers.

However, the genius had a hard life when he was raised by an abusive, alcoholic father. At the age of 49, he was deaf as a result of his father’s beatings. Magically, Beethoven could still compose some of his most esteemed work after losing his hearing.

John Nash (1928 - 2010)

The life story of mathematic genius John Nash was popularized in a four-Oscars-winning movie named “A Beautiful Mind”. However, John had to struggle with hallucinations and delusions. His hallucinations began occurring when he often heard voices without watching people or things that weren’t there. Then, the mathematician also suffered from delusions of grandeur and believed major world figures caught him.

He was able to make a significant recovery in the late 1980s after around 30 years fighting against the disorders

Edgar Allan Poe (1809 - 1849)

American writer Edgar Allan Poe was best-known for his poems like “The Raven” as well as horror and detective stories including “The Murders in the Rue Morgue” published in 1841.

The talented man experienced much spiritual pains when he witnessed the deaths of his parents, brother and wife. Furthermore, he also addicted alcohol, struggled with suicidal thoughts and was believed to have bipolar disorder.

Sir Isaac Newton (1642 - 1727)

Sir Isaac Newton is globally honored as a brilliant thinker thanks to his numerous and far-reaching contributions to physics and mechanics like inventing calculus, developing laws of motion, explaining "universal gravitation" and building the first reflective telescope.

Unfortunately, he probably suffered from bipolar disorder, psychotic tendencies and mood swings. It is believed that his mental disorder might have been a result of this prolonged traumatic childhood experience because his father died before he was born and he was separated from his mother between the ages of two and 11.
