Being an Igorot is Fun

What does it mean to live in this time of internet and trolling?

Being one of the Ethnic Minority in the Philippines, Igorots are being ridiculed from here and there. Before the time when social networking was not that rampant, my teacher asked me, during a discussion why, we, Igorots keep quiet when Lowlanders (other parts of the Philippines) give unnecessary comments. From what I learned, with my experiences, fighting with a stupid or deranged person makes you it. So you have to teach them in another way. We also blame the books used by other schools depicting Igorots different of what we really are

The difference we have with the other cities or provinces here in the Philippines is our development coming from the help of the Americans through the Thomasites. The Philippines was under the Spanish colonization for more than 300 years, except for the Igorots who fought them every time.

In this time when we should be more knowledgeable because we have no excuse. When social networking and internet are giving way for us to visit and know other peoples place and culture. It is so sad that other people are backward thinking or don't have the capability to think at all.

There had been incidents of Facebook post ridiculing Igorot, even people living in Baguio City. People in Baguio City and the Cordilleras are full of Igorots. Igorots are everywhere now. With all the comments that they have, have they not seen Markie Cielo? Can they not recognize people from what they think Igorots are?

There are claims that Igorots are decendants from China. I'll take that. People would say Igorots have curly hair, dark skin, and tails. Tails? Having a tail in India makes you a God. There's a lot of Indian Nationality in Baguio, why is there no chaos. Not to degrade our Aeta people, we do not look like them though. There would be films and TV presentations already, a lot of them, and yet people still are ignorant.

I do not involve myself in correcting people in Facebook stating ridiculous things towards other people. We have this thing called trolling and bashers. A lot of Celebrities get bashers. They just make other people miserable and they induge in it. They are like exhibitionist that when you react, they like it more. But when will learning come in? Why will they not want to enrich themselves with the tool that they already have. Maybe by then, we could be competing with Saudi Arabia and not envying.

A lot of post in Facebook have their whole name including middle name. For what status of being famous would you like to have when you are stepping on other people?

The former grade school teacher announced on the show that she and her billionaire husband will donate $120 million to public schools in the San Francisco Bay Area through their foundation, Startup: Education.

“We live in Palo Alto, which has, fortunately, one of the greatest school districts in the country,” Priscilla Chan said during the interview. “But right next door, actually within walking distance of our home, is East Palo Alto that has a K-8 system that has a lot of unmet needs that the public school district is struggling to make up the difference for at this time.”

The money will be used to improve technology used in the classrooms over the next five years, with the first $5 million of the $120 million going to school districts in San Francisco, Ravenswood and Redwood City.

Priscilla Chan later discussed her marriage with Mark Zuckerberg and his favorite article of clothing, his hoodie. The recent medical school graduate, who is training to become a pediatrician, also chatted about the couple’s dog Beast and more.
