Hugo Chavez's funeral scheduled for Friday, Venezuela declares 7 days of mourning

Hugo Chavez's funeral scheduled for Friday, Venezuela declares 7 days of mourning By Henry Funk

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez died in hospital on Tuesday afternoon (March 5, 2013) at the age of 58 after developing a severe respiratory infection during his a long battle against cancer. With his voice cracking and close to tears, vice President Nicolás Maduro, surrounded by other government officials, announced the death in a national television broadcast. The hardest and most tragic news left Venezuelans seven days of painful and public mourning. Hugo Chavez had been seriously ill with cancer for nearly two years, undergoing four operations in Cuba, and had not been seen in public since his last surgery on December 11. The heroic leader died at 4:25 pm local time in a military hospital in Caracas, the capital of the country he has ruled since 1999. His charismatic style, anti-US rhetoric and oil-financed policies won favour among many country’s residents. The government said Mr Chavez's body would lie in state until Friday (March 8, 2013) when his funeral would be held. The president's death is expected to trigger a snap election that will test whether his socialist revolution can live on without his dominant personality at the helm.

Cohabitating with the dead in Manila

By Phoenix Rose

It is hard to believe that many people can cohabitate with the dead. However, this happens in North Cemetery, the massive graveyard in Manila, Philippines. The cemetery houses more warm bodies than cold corpses.

10,000 Filipino families live there. Some families end up there almost by accident. Others are too poor to afford to live in the big city. In other words, they basically have nowhere to else to go. People also work to support their lives from collecting scrap metal or repairing tombs. According to Filipino custom, it is obligatory for children to carry coffins for the belief of keeping them safe from vengeful spirit.

Whitney Houston's Cause of Death: Pop Legend Died of Drowning In Bath Tube

By Phoenix Rose

Whitney Houston, the world’s famous diva known as pop music's queens thanks to majestic voice and regal image, was found dead at 3:55 p.m. Saturday, 11 February 2012 in her room on the fourth floor of the Beverly Hills Hilton. While the cause of death remains in unknown, the first official investigation reveals that, “There were no obvious signs of any criminal intent at this time”. Beverly Hills police Lt. Mark Rosen also told the reporters that “She has been positively identified by friends and family that were with her at the hotel, and next of kin have already been notified”.

Reportedly, Houston was found dead at the Beverly Hilton hotel yesterday by her hairdresser at 3:55 PM with her face below the water’s surface. Houston’s hairdresser had gone to check on the singer after becoming concerned that she had been in the bathroom for more than an hour. One of Houston's bodyguards pulled her out of the water and attempted CPR until paramedics arrived, but it was already too late for the music legend. Her body was removed from the Beverly Hilton around midnight. The previous day, Houston was spotted heavily partying with friends at the hotel bar and drinking a mixture of alcohol with Xanax. Prescription drugs have been found in Houston's room but no illegal drugs had been seized by police.

The results of Houston's post-mortem toxicology test will not be known for 4-6 week.
