Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg‘s wife Priscilla Chan gave her first television interview on “Today” on Friday morning (May 30, 2014). The former grade school teacher announced on the show that she and her billionaire husband will donate $120 million to public schools in the San Francisco Bay Area through their foundation, Startup: Education.

“We live in Palo Alto, which has, fortunately, one of the greatest school districts in the country,” Priscilla Chan said during the interview. “But right next door, actually within walking distance of our home, is East Palo Alto that has a K-8 system that has a lot of unmet needs that the public school district is struggling to make up the difference for at this time.”

The money will be used to improve technology used in the classrooms over the next five years, with the first $5 million of the $120 million going to school districts in San Francisco, Ravenswood and Redwood City.

Priscilla Chan later discussed her marriage with Mark Zuckerberg and his favorite article of clothing, his hoodie. The recent medical school graduate, who is training to become a pediatrician, also chatted about the couple’s dog Beast and more.

Mark Zuckerberg‘s wife Priscilla Chan was the first in her family to go to college. She was an interpreter for her grandparents who didn't speak English.

The Massachusetts native first met the Facebook founder of the social networking site at a Harvard University fraternity party in 2003. The pair dated for nearly a decade before getting married in their backyard in May 2012.

Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan made the largest charitable gift on record for 2013.

Mark Zuckerberg’s wife Priscilla Chan was described as the first lady of Facebook and the Kate Middleton of social media.
